Game Completion Time Calculator

Estimate how many hours remain to finish a game based on your current progress and time already invested. Perfect for planning gaming sessions or setting realistic completion goals.

About this calculator

This calculator uses your current progress percentage and hours already played to project the total time needed to finish a game, then subtracts what you've already spent. The underlying assumption is that your pace so far is representative of the rest of the game. The formula is: remainingTime = (hoursPlayed / (currentProgress / 100)) - hoursPlayed. First, dividing hoursPlayed by the decimal form of your progress gives the estimated total playtime. Subtracting hoursPlayed from that total yields the hours still ahead. This works best for games with linear progression but may underestimate time for open-world titles where late-game content is denser.

How to use

Suppose you've played 15 hours and reached 30% completion. Step 1: Convert progress to a decimal — 30 / 100 = 0.30. Step 2: Divide hours played by that decimal — 15 / 0.30 = 50 total estimated hours. Step 3: Subtract hours already played — 50 − 15 = 35 hours remaining. So you have approximately 35 more hours before you finish the game. Adjust your gaming schedule accordingly!

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the game completion time estimate based on progress percentage?

The estimate assumes a consistent pace throughout the game, which is a reasonable approximation for story-driven or level-based titles. However, accuracy drops for open-world games where optional content, difficulty spikes, or exploration can dramatically alter time per percentage point. For the best results, use it after you've made meaningful progress (at least 10–20%) so your pace is well established. Treat the result as a useful guideline rather than a guarantee.

What does 'current progress' mean in the context of this calculator?

Current progress refers to the percentage of the game you have completed, as reported by the game's internal tracker, achievement system, or a completion guide. Many modern games display this on the main menu or pause screen. If your game doesn't show a percentage, you can estimate it using the number of main story chapters completed versus total chapters. Side quests and collectibles may or may not be included depending on your definition of 'completion.'

Why does my remaining time increase when my progress percentage is low?

When your progress percentage is small, the calculator infers a very large total playtime from the hours you've already invested, so the remaining time is correspondingly large. For example, if you've played 5 hours and are only 5% done, the tool estimates 100 total hours — leaving 95 ahead. This sensitivity is mathematically correct but highlights why early estimates are less reliable. As your progress grows, the projection stabilizes and becomes more accurate.
