Exponent Calculator
Calculate any base raised to any power, including negative and decimal exponents
About this calculator
An exponent tells you how many times to multiply the base by itself. 2¹⁰ = 1024 means 2 multiplied 10 times. Negative exponents represent fractions: 2⁻³ = 1/8. Decimal exponents represent roots: 9⁰·⁵ = √9 = 3. Exponents are fundamental in compound interest, computer science, physics, and exponential growth models.
How to use
Base: 2, Exponent: 8 → result: 256. This means 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 = 256. Try base 10, exponent −2: result is 0.01.
Frequently asked questions
What is anything raised to the power of 0?
Any number (except 0) raised to the power of 0 equals 1. This is a fundamental rule of exponents: n⁰ = 1 for all n ≠ 0.
What does a negative exponent mean?
A negative exponent means take the reciprocal. 2⁻³ = 1/2³ = 1/8 = 0.125. It does not mean the result is negative.
