Percentage Decrease Calculator

Find the result after decreasing a value by a given percentage

About this calculator

To decrease a value by a percentage, multiply by (1 − percentage/100). Reducing 500 by 20% gives 500 × 0.80 = 400. Common uses include shop discounts, depreciation calculations, and budget cuts.

How to use

Enter the original value and the percentage reduction. A jacket costs 800 kr and is on sale for 25% off — enter 800 and 25. The sale price is 600 kr.

Frequently asked questions

Can I decrease by more than 100%?

A 100% decrease brings a value to zero. Decreasing by more than 100% would produce a negative result, which is mathematically valid but rarely meaningful in practical contexts like prices or quantities.

How do I find the original price before a discount?

Divide the discounted price by (1 − discount/100). If an item costs 400 kr after a 20% discount, the original price was 400 / 0.80 = 500 kr.
