About this calculator
Shoe sizing systems grew up separately, so conversions are approximate and brands differ by up to a half or whole size. This converter maps every system onto one scale (the US men's size) and back, using how each system is built:
• US and UK sizes go up by one barleycorn (⅓ inch, 0.847 cm) per size. A UK size is one size smaller than the US men's size for the same shoe (US men's 9 = UK 8). • US women's sizes are 1.5 larger than US men's for the same foot (a men's 8 is a women's 9.5). Some brands use a 1- or 2-size gap: see the men's to women's converter. • EU (Paris point) sizes go up by ⅔ cm per size, so one US size is about 1.27 EU sizes. • Japan, Mexico and China (GB/T 3293, the current national standard) label shoes by foot length in centimetres, Korea in millimetres, and the Mondopoint system (ISO 9407) in millimetres as well, so these are the same scale in different units. • Brazil runs about two numbers below EU (BR 40 ≈ EU 42). • Australia uses UK sizes for men and US sizes for women. • US kids sizes run 1 to 13 (little kid), then start again at youth 1Y, which is the same scale as men's 1. UK kids are one size below US kids.
The scales are lined up at a common reference point, US men's 9 = UK 8 = EU 42 = 27 cm, which matches many brands' charts, and sizes are rounded to the nearest half size (cm to 0.5 cm, mm to 5 mm). With the defaults, US men's 9 converts to EU 42.

The international standard ISO 19407 builds its conversion tables from foot length, and the Mondopoint system (ISO 9407) marks shoes by foot length in millimetres; this page uses the traditional size steps instead, so its results can differ from the ISO tables by a half size. Because the reference point and rounding differ between brands, treat the answer as a starting point and check the brand's own size chart, ideally against your measured foot length. Width is a separate measurement and is not converted here.

Enter your size (or your foot length), choose the system it is in, and choose the system you want. The tiles under the result show the foot length and the US, UK and EU equivalents at the same time. Example 1 (defaults): US men's 9 to EU gives 42. Example 2: US women's 8 to EU. Women's 8 is men's 6.5; EU = 42 + (6.5 − 9) × 1.27 = 38.8, rounded to 39. Example 3: EU 44 to US men's. 9 + (44 − 42) ÷ 1.27 = 10.6, rounded to 10.5. Example 4: UK 8 to Japanese or Mexican. UK 8 = US men's 9 = 27 cm. Example 5: Mexico 26 to US men's. 9 + (26 − 27) ÷ 0.847 = 7.8, rounded to 8. Example 6: Korea 250 mm to US women's. 25 cm = men's 6.6, plus 1.5 = 8.1, rounded to 8. Example 7: a child's 17 cm foot to US kids. 17 cm = men's −2.8, so US kids 10 (10.2 rounded) = UK kids 9 = EU 27.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert US women's sizes to men's?
Subtract 1.5. A women's 9.5 is a men's 8. Some brands use a 1-size or 2-size gap, so check unisex sneakers against the brand's chart, or use the men's to women's shoe size converter, which lets you pick the gap.
How do Mexican shoe sizes work?
Mexico labels shoes by foot length in centimetres, like Japan, so a Mexican 27 is about a US men's 9 (27 cm) and a Mexican 24 about a US women's 7.5. Some Mexican charts differ by half a centimetre from Japanese ones because they round the last length differently.
What is a Chinese shoe size?
China's national standard GB/T 3293 marks shoes by foot length in centimetres (or millimetres), so a Chinese 27 is a US men's 9. Many online shops instead print EU numbers (a 42 or 43) on shoes from China; if the number is above 35, read it as an EU size.
How do kids sizes relate to adult sizes?
US kids sizes run from 1 (about 9 cm, a baby) to 13 (about 19.5 cm), then continue as youth 1Y to 7Y, which are the same lengths as men's 1 to 7. A boy in youth 6Y wears a men's 6; a girl in youth 6Y wears a women's 7.5. UK kids sizes are one number below US kids sizes.
Why does my size differ between brands?
There is no single international standard that all brands follow. Each brand builds its shoes on its own lasts and draws its own chart, so the same foot can be a 9 in one brand and a 9.5 in another. Measuring your foot in centimetres and comparing it with the brand's chart is the most reliable method.
How do I measure my foot?
Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall, mark the tip of your longest toe, and measure from the wall to the mark in centimetres or inches. Measure both feet in the evening, when feet are largest, and use the longer one. Enter that length with "Foot length" or "Japan (cm)" as the system.
