Technical SEO Audit Score Calculator

Estimate your site's technical SEO health on a 0–100 scale using crawl errors, indexation ratio, HTTPS status, and site size. Use it during an audit to quickly benchmark crawlability and structure.

About this calculator

This calculator combines four signals into a single health score. The base score starts at 100 and is reduced by 2 points for every crawl error found. The indexation ratio (indexedPages / sitemapPages) contributes up to 20 bonus points. The result is then scaled by two multipliers: httpsStatus / 100 (penalising partial or missing HTTPS) and siteSize / 100 (a normalisation factor for site complexity). The full formula is: Score = clamp(0, 100, round((100 − crawlErrors × 2 + (indexedPages / sitemapPages) × 20) × (httpsStatus / 100) × (siteSize / 100))). Higher scores indicate fewer crawl obstacles, strong indexation, and secure infrastructure. A score below 60 typically signals critical issues that need immediate attention before other SEO work can be effective.

How to use

Suppose your site has 5 crawl errors, 80 pages in the sitemap, 72 indexed pages, an HTTPS score of 100, and a site-size score of 90. Step 1 — base: 100 − (5 × 2) = 90. Step 2 — indexation bonus: (72 / 80) × 20 = 18. Step 3 — sum: 90 + 18 = 108. Step 4 — apply HTTPS multiplier: 108 × (100 / 100) = 108. Step 5 — apply site-size multiplier: 108 × (90 / 100) = 97.2. Step 6 — clamp and round: min(100, 97) = 97. Your technical SEO score is 97 out of 100.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good technical SEO audit score and what score should I aim for?

A score of 80 or above is generally considered healthy and indicates that crawlability, indexation, and security are in solid shape. Scores between 60 and 79 suggest notable issues—such as a high crawl-error count or incomplete HTTPS deployment—that are likely suppressing rankings. Anything below 60 points to structural problems that should be fixed before investing in content or link building. Aim for 85+ for competitive niches.

How do crawl errors affect my technical SEO score?

Each crawl error subtracts 2 points from your base score of 100 before any other multipliers are applied. This means just 10 crawl errors already removes 20 points from your ceiling. Crawl errors prevent search engines from discovering and rendering pages correctly, which can lead to important pages being left out of the index entirely. Fixing 404s, redirect chains, and server errors is therefore one of the highest-leverage technical SEO improvements you can make.

Why does HTTPS status influence the technical SEO score so heavily?

HTTPS is used as a multiplier in the formula, meaning a low HTTPS score scales down every other component proportionally rather than just subtracting a fixed amount. Google has confirmed HTTPS as a ranking signal since 2014, and browsers now flag non-secure pages with warnings that increase bounce rates. Partial HTTPS implementations—mixed content, expired certificates, or HTTP pages within an otherwise secure site—are the most common culprits for a depressed multiplier. Ensuring full HTTPS coverage is one of the quickest wins available.
